I’ve stayed at Gandhi Hostel for a week and my experience there has been great. The female dorm was clean and confortable, the beddings changed everyday and the bathroom was light and aery with a very good shower to help against Chennai’s heat. Whilst there was no a/c during the day - only at night- it didn’t bother me much as the room still has a ceiling fan and curtains on the windows to keep from direct sunlight. The communal space was very nice too, with plush couches to relax in and tables to work at, and a library for those who need new reading material. The staff were very polite and friendly and the meals from the kitchen were delicious. I also went on tours of the city with Aroun as my guide, as proposed by the staff, and it was a really good way to get to know the city and its sights with a local who knows his way around. Overall, it was a really good experience, I felt safe and confortable and would recommend the place to any woman traveling and needing a place to stay in the city.
