The Stump

We visited for a special Mother’s Day meal, but unfortunately, the food was not up to an acceptable standard. The lamb was extremely fatty, and both the potatoes and vegetables were barely cooked. Our waitress did check in on us during the meal, but as it was a gift from my children, I didn’t feel comfortable raising the issue at the time. When I did eventually mention it, the only response passed on from the kitchen was a simple “sorry” – no effort to rectify the situation or offer anything further. I later submitted a written complaint, only to be told that I should have said something during the meal. I replied to explain the circumstances, but never received a follow-up or any form of acknowledgment after that. Very disappointed by both the meal and the lack of customer care. I had hoped for a more thoughtful experience, especially on such a meaningful occasion.

The Stump is one of our favourite regular haunts. We've been there and to Baz & Fred's other place near by maybe 30 times. But oh dear. Maybe it Saturdays but short staffing issues and general lack of attention to detail are taking their toll. The staff are fantastic but the food has taken a turn for the worse. The usually excellent beef Ragu with pasta arrived good and messy, the rocket salad had seen better days and the, again usually, perfect tender stem broccoli looked like it had died in a tsunami and been dig up. It was over cooked and presented like a compost heap. Please still go as it's a great place and I am banking of this shambolic experience being a one off but here's the word of warning to Baz & Fred. Get over there and take control. You cannot afford this kind of slip in standards. Please don't get complacent.

Stayed for one night in a room with 2 doubles. Was lovely and clean, beds were a little firm but the bedding and pillows were so fluffy and comfy it was really cosy. Our breakfast the next morning was out of this world. It was so relaxing sat in front of a real fire in the breakfast room and the food was delicious. I had scrambled eggs and smoked salmon...the best I've had anywhere! The rest of the family had delicious cooked breakfasts which were such generous portions and really fresh produce and very good quality. Staff were all so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Would love to go back and stay and try their home cooked pizzas next time.

Great character place to eat and drink in atmospheric surroundings. Welcoming staff and a great menu to suit all with good choice of dietary requirements. We went with friends and everyone enjoyed the experience. I had a pizza which was melt in the mouth delicious. Would definitely go again.

Stopped for lunch recently on the way out of the Cotswolds back to London - great location for a pit-stop en route. Pizzas are excellent and service is good. Had a negroni. We didn't stay overnight but would certainly return for food. Starters also excellent. Lovely little spot.

We stayed at The Stump hotel in the summer for a friends wedding. Despite being in the middle of no where it was surprisingly easy to get to. On arrival we were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff who showed us to our room. The rooms were a good size for 2 people (we had 2 double beds). The bathroom was stylish and the shower was powerful. Our sleep was very comfortable and so quiet. As 2 females we felt very safe. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. There was a variety of options which was a nice surprise for a small hotel. The staff at breakfast were very attentive and polite. I recommend The Stump for anyone visiting the area and fancy a quiet little break.
