Do you want to enjoy a comfortable place away from the coeds on the Black Sea? If you want to avoid the crowds of Batumi but be close enough to visit, Hotel Tramonto in ChKvi is only 15 km north. It is really more of an “inn.” This small hotel (7 rooms) is right on the sea, with a lovely little tiled pool & very friendly service from the owner. I almost felt like an old friend. The 2nd floor terrace & pool patio are lovely seaside settings. My room faced the large rose+ garden. The breakfast was amazing-I would just suggest adding some fruit to the variety of sausages, eggs, cheese & bread. Strong Georgian coffee was made on request. The owner even drove me into both Chakvi & Kobuleti when she was going there, at NC. She has a friendly taxi driver who can come too. Her English is quite good. The most expensive room is wonderful, with a big balcony overlooking pool & sea. But I was a few steps from both the patio & terrace. The Tramonto reminded me of a little Greek isle villa-the lobby has a huge collection of small ephemera of China (material). Note there is no elevator for the 3 floors, and the railroad track is literally a stone’s throw away. And like most all Black Sea beaches, it is pebbly, not sandy. The hotel provides padded mattresses for the beach. Three minor suggestions, which don’t detract from my 5* rating: 1. Consider putting soap & shampoo in larger, refillable containers, to avoid plastic garbage. 2. Consider replacing the old iron stairs to the beach with newer wood or metal ones. 3. Consider replacing the cheap slippers with reusable sandals that are more fitting to the quality of the place. This is a great place to relax & te-charge, with the bustling Batumi a Marshrutka (shared taxi, about 50c) to Batumi very nearby. With constant traffic, the ride often takes close to 1/2 hour.
