Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel

Zlata Ladjica is truly a boutique hotel with only 15 rooms, all individual. The building is an older building that has been recently fully renovated and modernized but retains the old sense and charm. The staff here are exceptional in their friendliness and service, and go well beyond any standards experienced in 5 star plus hotels. The accommodation is very comfortable and the bed and bathroom facilities are excellent. Unfortunately the room (35) is a bit small and with limited space for clothing and placing luggage. The room is well equipped with complimentary minibar and regular provision of sweet delights and fruit from the staff. The breakfast is included in room tariff and is good quality and nice selection of Slovenian cheeses and meats and made to order hot meals. The position of the hotel is unparalleled, close to much of the old town delights, shops, dining and sights. Five stars, would be a plus if had more space in the room and clothing/luggage space.

We stayed at Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel for three nights. It has only 15 individually designed rooms and is ideally located right by the river, in the heart of Ljubljana’s pedestrian-only Old Town. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a high-quality, characterful stay in lovely Ljubljana. The hotel is perfectly situated on the riverside promenade. Everything in the city center is within walking distance. Since cars aren’t allowed in the Old Town, you’re dropped off just outside and walk a few minutes to the hotel. Transfers from the airport are possible via shuttle, taxi, or public bus. We stayed in Room 15, which offered views of both the castle, the river, and the lively outdoor terrace. The room was bright, modern, and thoughtfully renovated. A standout feature was the Jura coffee machine – a first for us in a hotel room, and it was great to enjoy freshly brewed coffee whenever we liked. There are two distinct dining experiences: A casual pub-style space with a terrace, featuring an extensive beer selection and light meals – great for a relaxed afternoon or a pre-dinner Aperol Spritz. In addition, a restaurant serves breakfast and dinner in a more elegant setting. Breakfast was a highlight, with several sweet and savory set menus based on local and seasonal ingredients. Additional à la carte options like eggs, porridge, and muesli were freshly prepared. The service was incredibly friendly and professional – the team speaks excellent English, and some also speak German and Italian. The private spa is small but beautifully designed, with a steam room, sauna, and the option to book massages. It’s available for exclusive use, meaning you have the entire space to yourself during your session – a very relaxing experience.

This hotel was a fantastic find and we had a superb stay. The location is excellent; stunning views of the castle and river, walking distance to everything and not too noisy at nighttime either thankfully. The staff are excellent, it’s clear they all really take pride in their roles at the hotel and really want to do everything possible to help their guests. We got more useful information from the conscierge and Marko than from the nearby tourist information centre. Breakfast is a fabulous affair - every option is well considered and has little touches that add to the presentation and taste. Lovely relaxing breakfasts with great quality food and brilliant service - a special call out to Marko who sets such a superb standard in customer service and was a pleasure to meet in the mornings. No request was too big or small. Well done to the owner for restoring such a beautiful building and investing in such a wonderful hotel. And thank you to the management and all the staff for a truly memorable stay. We will most certainly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area.

A perfect hotel ideally located overlooking the Butchers' Bridge in the city center, offering top-notch service, beautiful rooms, and a varied and delicious breakfast. The outstanding quality of service should also be highlighted.The car pick-up service is very well organized, and the city can easily be explored on foot."

There really needs to be a Tripadvisor category for 5+ hotels, with some way of limiting how freely people could award such recognition - for example, allowing people to identify a hotel as being among the top 5 or 10 they have ever visited. Zlata Ladjica would fit into that group for us. The hotel itself is beautiful and in excellent condition, with tasteful decor and colors and an thoughtful combination of the building's old heritage with modern design. We had the experience of two different rooms during our stay, both of which were very well decorated and designed - in fact, each room is unique not only in its shape but in its decor. The bathrooms were creatively designed and the furniture was well chosen. Yet the real standout of the hotel is its team. From top to bottom, front desk to restaurant, the staff were fantastic - not mere employees but rather well-educated team members who shared the responsibilities for seeing that each guest's needs were addressed. The bar/restaurant staff was particularly impressive, but then again so was the front desk staff, and even the cleaning ladies were full of smiles. The food must be mentioned as well. Breakfast might as well count as lunch as it was oh so large. On the first morning, you are treated to a standard plate with local traditions, which alone would satisfy most hungry diners, but you then also are asked to select from the list of egg and other mains - all delicious but belt-busting. After the first day, you have different themed breakfast options (mermaid, fitness, etc.), which didn't reduce the food quantity but does provide some variety when compared to the traditional European hotel breakfast buffet. We also enjoyed dinner in the restaurant one night and were very pleased with the quality of the food. And, oh yes, the service was excellent. In other words, a 5+ hotel experience!

5-Stars doesn’t give this team at this hotel enough stars!! It’s like the Dream Team here! Warm smiles - all day and all night. Awesome dining recommendations outside of the hotel. And, just the best espresso, wine, breakfast, snack, dinner, and turndown service in any city, anywhere in the world. We had an amazing breakfasts/dinner at Zlata Ladjica. We love Ljubljana!
