A very smart tidy Victorian building with a very welcoming friendly host, Leanne, who makes your stay relaxing. The guest house is easy to get to whether driving via the A7 or walking from the rail station. There is parking at the side street round the corner, a mere 30 yards walking; it is a ‘permit zone’ which will be issued by Leanne. Our room was 7 on the top floor and obviously cannot comment on other rooms. The room was clean, tidy and well decorated, with pictures and mirrors on the walls, usual furniture of bed, very comfortable, wardrobe, it was small but sufficient, bedside tables and a very small table with tea/coffee making facilities on it under the TV and two dining table type chairs. It would perhaps have been better to have had a bigger table and losing both chairs in favour of a stool so there was a workspace and/or somewhere for the ladies to put on make-up. The bathroom had a large shower, toilet and was basin, storage space in a cupboard under the sink (which we missed until the last day doh!) The shower space as really good but the electric shower feeds off other electric showers so the water pressure and the water temperature fluctuated quite a bit if having a shower at the same time as someone else, so pick your time ha ha. The room had two windows that could be opened to let in some fresh air they are on restricted opening mechanisms so a good safety feature but they can be opened fully if required and flicking the button in the frame. As it was hot we left the windows open but by 3am the seagulls and other birds woke up and squawked constantly so had to shut them. For breakfast you can have cereal, yoghurt, fruit juice, toast etc. but the cooked ‘full English’ breakfast is cooked to order and is delicious and wins hands down – fills you up for the day, washed down with some good old fashioned Yorkshire Tea. As it is an old Victorian building any disabled access was not evident and there didn’t seem to be any rooms on the ground floor, it’s about three steps up from the pavement and no lift to the rooms. It’s a short walk to the town centre for some good restaurants and bars, most of it pedestrianised so nice and quiet from traffic. Would I stay again….sure would, it is a smashing guest house with a host to match, its comfortable, easy to get to, close to amenities, and a fantastic breakfast, what’s not to like.
