We stayed as a family of 4 for a week in an ocean view suite with a kitchenette and separate bedroom. Beautiful room, perfect view. “Coconut” building facing the sunset/gulf side. Pool is beautiful, huge! Clean! Seriously a beautiful pool that was always the perfect temperature. The pool bar had good drinks and food, plus an attentive staff. The coffee bar with lattes and baked goods is perfection for relaxing in the morning after the sunrise on the sound. and we spent half of our time there. I wish they had later pool hours. In the winter months, “dawn to dusk” means the pool is closed far too early. We were disappointed that we couldn’t swim later, until at least 8. The biggest issue by far was the TOWELS at the pool! They make you get them from a machine, which often doesn’t work. (We had to hunt for help on 3 separate days.) They won’t give you towels without using the machine. They claim that they are microchipped and will charge you $25 for non-return of these pathetic towels that look 20 years old and threadbare already!!! This is NOT the action of a luxury resort. The day we checked out, we had the same issue with the broken towel machine and had to hunt towels down for 30 minutes. Later, we were freshly showered after loading up our luggage, hurrying for the airport and checking out. They told us to go back to our room, find those towels, and return to the pool or face the $25 charges!!! I’m appalled by this! The maids can’t return pool towels that we had to beg and chase people for??? They were unapologetic. They really really really keep tabs on the junky pool towels, even though you have to chase down an unwilling hotel employee to find them in the first place. I’ve never in my life been told at even a cheap hotel to “go find your pool towels.” If we look elsewhere next time, it will be because of this interaction. So rude!!! Construction did occur and was expected. The island is repairing. We don’t fault them this one bit. They keep it respectfully quiet and stay out of your way. We did lose hot water for a bit, but they turned it back on quickly. The spa was a wonderful treat. My little girls even got manicures, which was a highlight of the trip for them. They have people there to set up beach chairs and umbrellas for you, which is nice! The restaurants on site, especially Shipyard, are great. The shipyard shrimp was so good we had it 3x. They also have a steakhouse and fine dinning restaurant on site. There is a little marina on the sound side where you can borrow kayaks and bikes for free! We saw many dolphins over here too. They even have a few beach items, like boogie boards, that you can borrow. A lady there, (she had short blonde hair,) told my kids they could pick a fancy, special sea shell from the ones the employees left! They appreciated that so much!! This truly is the best set of islands to come to for shells! It’s the little things that matter, but also add up when you’re traveling with your family. A seashel
