Having been to Norfolk a few times we know what to expect in terms of the standard of accommodation in most places. It tends to be clean but a little on the rustic side. This hotel is no different. The place is stuck in a time warp but I also know how difficult it would be to renovate not to mention the cost. We had a superior room which was clean but definitely showing its age with a lot of scuffs and marks everywhere. I also could not believe how much branding there was on everything - pillows, sheets, cups, plates, towels etc - seems slightly mad and unnecessary. The rooms are warm and you will be thankful for any cross breeze. In fact adding ceiling fans would fix this issue really easily. The beds are REALLY uncomfortable. They have almost no support and if the other person in the bed moves it is like a tsunami rolling through the bed. Other odd things are the small TV which cannot be seen (or rotated to be seen) from the couch, water jug not being filled, giant key ring and dinner.... I have never stayed anywhere where I have to pre-order dinner and have that done by 4:00 pm. Also asking for our dinner to be at 7:30 pm was far too late. The latest they would do this was 6:45 pm. We decided to order and when in our room we were then advised that as we were the only two guests dining that would we mind our meal as room service. No real issue. That said we went to the lobby bar for a drink (the only people there on a Saturday night) and the staff were happy to serve our meal there. This was significantly better. The food itself was fine, a bit expensive for what it was. The staff were quite friendly and very polite. Overall the stay was fine but will choose elsewhere for our next visit.
