We stayed at the inn on vacation in July. We loved experiencing this gorgeous but more remote area of Maine, and found that this was definitely the best option for accommodations, even though there are several areas for improvement. Parking was free and easy, and we loved their in house restaurant. The upstairs kitchen, which was kept stocked for guests with breakfast items, also had exquisitely made pastries that we loved. We liked the self serve approach, and found that the food quality was higher than most other fancier hotels. The property was also dog friendly and welcomed our dog. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding towns, which again are remote but absolutely beautiful in summer and relaxing. In terms of areas for improvement, the reception desk was not manned during our stay, which made check in a bit challenging, and we had to pop in at the restaurant to find a staffer whenever we had questions. The inn itself is in a historic home, and the decor is functional though very minimal—I would say too much so (closet space and more of an overall design would be welcome additions). Our room did have a window air conditioning unit, but it was not on when we arrived, and it took several hours to cool down our room until it was comfortable. Again, the town is very small and remote, so this is definitely a solid option, and the best available, but with some tweaks, and especially with such great culinary offerings, the property has the potential to compete with similar beautiful independent refurbished historic home properties in the Catskills or Berkshires.

Totally impersonal, there was a key on the table with laminated procedures. In the four days we stayed we never saw anyone that worked there. Didn't even get an email welcoming us after check in - NOTHING. Our room looked lovely with beautiful big windows and the bathroom was huge with an old tub. Everything was very clean. BUT here are the cons for $300 per night: Bed was terrible. It seemed plush but the mattress is low density foam that you sink into, offering no support. We had huge overstuffed king pillows that when combined with the super soft bed really caused neck and shoulder pain. We went out and bought pillows the second day which helped. There was no fan and it was hot in our room. No screens on the windows so our room had mosquito's and other little flying things. Bedside lamps way too small and dim to use for reading. Nowhere to put anything - a few pegs on the wall but no dresser, shelves, closet. Same with bathroom. There is a little breakfast kitchen that was ill supplied. When we came out at 8 all the coffee was gone, yogurt was gone, no spoons or glasses to be had on various mornings. No hot pads for toaster oven, no tongs to pick pastry out of container. Outside table and chairs were soaking wet every morning. Enough coffee in room to make 4 cups and nowhere to replenish. NO GUEST PARKING! The restaurant is clearly what they care about. As an Inn guest I would expect to have a place to park after being out for the day but restaurant guests take up all the parking on the entire road when open. Finally there were commercial string lights all across the yard that are left on 24/7 making the bedroom light at night through the curtains. Also really wasteful. For the same price you can stay at any number of lovely B and B's where you will be appreciated and welcome. I know this sounds negative, we did have a wonderful trip but these little annoyances should not happen at this price point. I also thought it strange as an Inn guest who reserved dinner weeks in advance with time options, that we would be given the worst table in the restaurant - tight little interior corner. Sigh Dinner was fantastic! Only two waitresses for the inside, so hectic and slow but ours was very kind. We live here to totally understand about being short staffed.
