White Angel Hotel

We stayed at white Angel for a week in early February. The hotel as a whole there are positives and negatives. The hotel is very clean, modern and well maintained. It is in a great place to provide amazing views of the mountains. The shuttle bus that operates between the hotel and the town centre is convenient and the drivers are all friendly. The spa is lovely and is very relaxing. The restaurants food is very well cooked (but limited and does not cater to all tastes). The bar is also a lovely area to sit and have a drink and admire the views and it is quite reasonably priced and the staff are attentive. The main negative of the hotel has to be the temperature. The rooms are so ridiculously hot it could only be described as sleeping in a lit furnace. We spent the back end of the week sleeping with the door out onto the patio open all night to get the room at a respectable temperature. The thermostat on the wall does nothing other than tell the room temp so you can’t even control the room temp. The second negative is the sound proofing of the rooms to the corridor… don’t expect to enjoy a lie in. In a morning you can hear every crash bang and voice in the corridor outside the room as if the noise was coming from the end of the bed, we were woken up every morning by some kind of disturbance from the corridor. The restaurant had a limited menu that is very “fine dining” the starter buffet was confusing, nothing had a sign telling you what it was so it was a bit of trial and error what you tried. The service wasn’t particularly smooth and staff often seemed flustered and disorganised which meant we were often ignored for 5-10 minutes when trying to catch someone’s attention. Overall the hotel was very nice and we enjoyed our stay however there were small things that tarnished what could be a very good hotel which was a shame.

We went on a 5 days trip 4 friends. We booked 2 rooms. We did see that the hotel was off Center however we had a car and the hotel have a perfect garage. The biggest advantage was that hotel has ski in and ski out option from the locker room. Made our life so easy. We rent the equipment from the hotel and the ski passes. So beside grabbing dinner at town at night we could easily enjoy the hotel’s amazing facilities. Great breakfast and bar area. The hotel does have a small spa for an extra charge but I think the biggest attraction in the spa is the swimming pool. Which has an outdoor access. Thanks a wonderful stay we would definitely be back and recommend to others.

We arrived yesterday morning and after reading the reviews on trip advisor I was more than a little worried about what I would find. So far it is fantastic, the room is clean comfortable and modern, a fabulous view of the slopes from our balcony, the food is excellent and plentiful, so much choice… found some good wine to have last night with dinner. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I had the pool and spa area all to myself this morning while the skiers in our group went up the mountain. The club sandwich in the bar makes an excellent lunch option if you don’t want to venture down into town. I will edit my review as the week progresses but what a fantastic start…

Overpriced, overrated, under delivered. Hotel was clean and modern with nice showers and convenient ski rental- that’s all of the positives. Restaurant was awful, amateur service, poorly cooked food, repetitive and inconsistent with literally everything chargeable (advertised as a gourmet restaurant with specific egg menu- not included 7eur for a fried egg). Pool charged at 20 eur per person, residents not entitled to use (spa I would have thought was chargeable but not to pool) so forget a 30 min dip after skiing. Hotel temperature is insane- boiling. Room temps don’t run off the thermostat on the wall- that would be too obvious, controlled by downstairs and the computer was broke. Outside balcony lights controlled by downstairs and shine through paper thin curtains at night. Shower is lovely but in the middle of the room in front of the door to the hall so offer zero privacy, surprise surprise 6 eur a night for water- family of four costs start to rack up pretty quickly. Bar was nice but the fire advertised was imaginary- a bit like the service, 30 min wait for a drink- quicker than a coffee in the morning though which often never showed at all despite 2-3 requests. Shuttle fits 8 people despite 72 people staying here- constant battle to get into town. Not surprising given the standards on offer here. We all hated the food and ate out, annoying as we only stayed here as it was a ‘gourmet’ restaurant. Avoid.

Perhaps it was the start of the season, but we did not come away for our 3 day mini ski break feeling warm and fluffy about this hotel.. Check in was not smooth, it felt like we were an inconvenience, and the receptionist seemed terrified when initially we only produced my passport (my husband was trying to sort out the car parking… which is another story..). And the business of having to bring €€ in your dressing gown to go to the spa- surely the spa (about 10 meters from reception) could come to an arrangement with the hotel whereby the spa bill would be charged to the room…?? And on check out, having paid our €1,111 bill for three nights and one meal, it felt petty to be chased as we headed to the car because they had forgotten to add an additional €10 for parking. That said the head waiter was delightful and also the shuttle bus driver. Overall it feels like this hotel could use an experienced hotel manager who could turn it into a smoother operation…We have skied plenty of times in the area but we won’t be back to this hotel.
