I stayed for my friend’s wedding. It's not easy to find yummy plant-based meals at events, but I loved the vegan options which were unreal! The team are mega. Shoutout to the manager, who made us laugh all weekend and went the extra mile to make sure everything on the day ran like clockwork. I also want to mention the wedding coordinator (Abbey?), whose attention to detail was evident throughout the day. Thank you for a first-class experience!

This was our third visit to Llangoed Hall and we won’t be going again….we had booked a delux room with a countryside view and could not believe that 50% of one large window was covered in Ivy obscuring the view and making the room very dark. The hotel did nothing about this with their groundsmen and we had to resort to dangerous leaning out of the window with a pair of nail scissors to clear what glass we could reach!!! The adjacent window had a nice view which also included the atrium above the bar but at night time this turned into a neon disco ruining all ambiance as the staff did not know how to turn it off!!!!! I mean god help that they might think to use the TELEPHONE and call the owner or the maintenance team. The other problem was the standard of bedding, it had been downgraded since our last two visits. It was so scratchy and rough, I asked housekeeping for some different bedding and was told the new owners had changed contracts and this was the only bedding they had. It appears now to be run by a group of staff and owners who do not actually care about the guest experience, I expect this beautiful hotel will go bankrupt very soon.

Returned for a night’s stay 12 months on as attending Winter Fair in Builth. Had the same room. No biscuits or sherry this year! Only saw 3 staff the whole stay. Room was warm and clean. Had breakfast this year but did not start until 8am. We went down earlier not knowing this so felt awkward hanging about waiting. All food and drink is self service. Hot food was slow coming out, gave up waiting for eggs! Hot drinks pre-made and served in insulated jugs which is poor for this standard of hotel. No staff came to ask if we needed anything and were invisible once food was out. Food was ok but odd taste on orange juice! No staff around at check out so we left key and went. Disappointed they only have One Star ‘Scores on the Door’ food hygiene rating.

Well I would first like to commend the restaurant manager for her enthusiasm and vision for this beautiful place . The food was tasty and the best GF bread I have had in a long time. It’s a beautiful setting with rooms that are spacious and welcoming. She was welcoming and full of great ideas for this place. However the general running of the hotel was not great. An absence of staff during major safeguarding incident and fire alarm incident was troubling . Others have already detailed in their reviews.

Didn’t read any prior reviews. Met up as 2 couples. Location and grounds stunning. The hotel itself is very grand and like stepping back in time. Room was great and bathroom superb. Had tea and coffee served in the drawing room and then dinner in the rest. Limited menu but excellent food and our waitress was lovely. Very close to Hay on Wye for a trip out on Sunday.

Wonderful! It is an exquisite place. Impressive, understated, calm and very comfortable. If there were enough staff it would be 5*. (I was told more are being recruited, but it's difficult) An excellent Saturday night dinner with a great Portuguese red from the wide wine list. Staff worked very hard, doing the best they could, and were unfailingly polite and courteous.. Especial praise for the new Maitre D, Geddis. A few more like him would get the Hotel to where it should (and deserves to) be.

Mixed thoughts about our stay and needs to be split into three parts, location, hotel and staffing. Fortunately we booked with an offer otherwise we would not have stayed given the normal prices. The hotel is an amazing location and the rooms are large and there are plenty of public places to sit around and look out at the views. However, what the hotel lacks is any atmosphere. I’m not a fan of piped music but it felt like we were on a “silent retreat” as there was no background noise and the few guests that were there, spoke in hushed whispers. For a hotel to charge high prices things need to be spot on. There were multiple niggly issues. The tables in the dining room are low and not rotated correctly so you can’t get your knees under due to a cross bar. In our bathroom in room 5 the H and C were missing from the taps. No fridge in the room so you need to ask for fresh milk. The tv is too small for the room. The hotel is frayed on the edges and needs a bit of TLC. On Sunday morning before we went out we tidied up our bed - Simone did go into our room but the bed wasn’t touched and the towels we left hanging on the back of the door weren’t folded or put back in their place. There were very few hangers in the wardrobe and none you could hang trousers from. As a result I didn’t unpack but my other half half did. Although staff did their best it’s quite clear they are under staffed which impacts on service. Breakfast was a la carte on Saturday, buffet on Sunday and a la carte on Monday. We had to wait a while for the buffet to be replenished as when we went down at 8.30am there was very little left. However the buffet was nothing more than you’d get in a full English. The fruit options were the same each day and there was some Camembert and that was it. There was one choice of yoghurt. We had an evening meal on the Sunday which was very good-three courses for £50. Our bill at checkout was wrong as we were charged for a full bottle of wine instead of a glass which was immediately corrected. In most hotels you’d expect a reception desk by or near the door, to welcome you. There is a table at one end of a corridor. I think it’s there so the staff can multi task between the bar, dining room and reception. Overall if the hotel is to survive it needs a reset - for example it was not clear to us who the manager or person in charge was.

Stayed at Llangoed Hall a couple of weeks ago as part of a late Christmas party with work🎄Really enjoyed the different welcome drinks like the Cherry Bakewell flavoured IPA and Blood Orange Lager 🍻 Loved how close knit the team was. Not sure if they are Manager and assistant? But Abbie and Kaylie are literally your dream team ❤️ Clearly love what they do and are super relatable. Also very clear they both know their bar! I’ve never had so many drinks recommended to me 🤣 Secretly hoping next year’s belated team Christmas festivities are here so I can try the Mint Aero Cocktails and Jammy Dodger Shots we talked about!

Stayed over the Christmas period. Had also stayed in March. Both times they were very short staffed. Very difficult trying to find someone even when just trying to get a drink in the evening Staff were lovely. The manager on both occasions was extremely rude, unprofessional and very unfriendly. Christmas lunch was a shambles. Meal times were like being in faulty towers including the mangers rude behaviour. Only about 20 guests staying and they seriously struggled with this. Food was ok, Christmas lunch was very small. Apart from a choir on arrival in the evening which was exceptional the following few days were diabolical. There should have been a party as advertised Christmas night with DJ and live music instead was a very poor buffet. The manager was asked about this and a very rude response after his constantly trying to ignore the guest and walk away without speaking was, you've obviously been looking at the wrong hotel!! Most guest’s were in bed early as there was nothing to do and the atmosphere was awful. The hotel was sparsely decorated and underwhelming. A change of ownership, and management needed. Staffing levels need seriously increasing. Trying to cut back and save money has been very detrimental to the hotel Shame as it’s a lovely place, with the right leadership and money being spent it would be a phenomenal hotel
