Inn on Putney Road

We had a wonderful visit at the Inn at Putney Road. The room was comfortable, clean and sunny. The food at breakfast was outstanding - more than we could eat We didn’t want to leave!! We will definitely be returning. Thankyou for sharing your wonderful home.

Homey yet elegant, the Inn on Putney Road lives up to the charm one looks for in a Bed and Breakfast. It is cozy and the sense of passion for hospitality comes through. My family member and I stayed a couple of nights. When we arrived, we had space to breathe and become acquainted with the room and house. It felt open, welcoming, and was quiet: just what we longed for when escaping to Vermont for nature and peace. The gorgeous antiques were varied. Each common area was a joy to be in. The room was lovely, clean, and nicely arranged. The mini refrigerator in the closet had plenty of space and there was a carafe of water in it as well as seltzers in glass jars. We let the innkeepers know we were vegan ahead of time, and plant-based popcorn and chocolates, made by local companies, were in a basket on the vanity- a thoughtful touch. There were beautiful pottery mugs for tea and coffee in the room, of spring colors. These were also downstairs for use and there were others for sale: souvenirs to bring home. The mugs are made in MN by a small company, Deneen Pottery. The Harney and Sons looseleaf and bag tea was offered in delicious flavors. All of these mostly local and small business offerings added to the experience. The bed was very comfortable and the bath was delightful for easing the muscles after hikes and cool air. The robes were a luxurious touch. We felt like characters in a period drama: going downstairs to play the piano in the fine room with the fireplace, or for a game of pool. There was also a chess table in another small room which was finely decorated. There were board games and books in abundance. The yard had lighting in the trees at night. Past the bubbling fountain in the middle, there were patios that looked through tall pines at the river below. The stars shone brightly, and we warmed in front of the fire. The Inn people we met were Paul, the owner, and also Fay, and Marie. All were brightly welcoming. Breakfast was exquisite with multiple courses. They took care to provide us filling and flavorful meals with plant-based eggs and sausage, potatoes, grapefruit with a sweet crust of and cinnamon covered in fruit, parfait, and French toast with local maple syrup. What a place!

A great place to stay in Brattleboro. I'm really happy to have found and stayed here, this house has great common areas to relax in, great rooms, and more importantly great staff. Paul took care of me from Check-in to Check-out. Breakfast was very good and would recommend. I stayed in the carriage house and it was an easy comfortable stay with great amenities. I liked that the house was only just slightly outside of 'downtown' and definitely a short and easy walk. Was great to have the fireplace and wish I would have stayed longer. Such a cozy and comfortable stay. The Inn was decorated for the holidays and very welcoming. I was able to walk to my auntie's house each day. The breakfasts that Paul created were delicious! And I enjoyed the gas fireplace in my room! Thank you. I'll be back!

Don't we all wish we had more time? Fran and I were on a four-state road trip to see family and friends and had the good fortune to pick Brattleboro's Inn on Putney Road as one of our overnight stays. The Inn is a nearly century-old French-style mansion initially built for the head of the Brattleboro Retreat. Each of the six rooms has its bathroom and is well-appointed and comfortable for sleeping and sitting. The large room on the first floor is a must-do for reading, playing board games, playing pool, or sitting and watching the fire. Breakfast is amazing and comparable to the best of restaurant fare. Alas, family in Albany were waiting for us. We wish we had more time. Upon leaving the Inn, we stopped at the Brattleboro Retreat hiking area. It is open to the public and has beautiful trails of varying difficulty. Finally, while hiking at the Retreat, I realized I had left my water bottle at the Inn. By coincidence, at that moment, Paul, the inn's owner, called to mention my water bottle. When he learned I was hiking, he said not to worry, as he was on his way into town and would leave the bottle by my car. Not only is Paul a master chef, he is a genuinely nice person. We do this multistate tour a couple of times a year. Next time, we'll spend more time at the Inn!

We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival and escorted to our room by Paul. The rom was lovely, bed was comfortable, amenities abundant and pillows were perfect. Our breakfast was fantastic and Paul clearly was experienced in the kitchen and was very proud of his cooking. Highly recommended!
