Heimspitze - Alpenhotel & Wirtshaus

I love Gargellen. I first skied there as a teenager in the late 70s. It's a special place with a certain charm. It's also pretty much off the beaten track for most british skiers, which I hate to say but that's not a bad thing. Gargellen as some great off-piste and the Montafon valley as a whole offers plenty of choice and it's all easily accessible even if you don't have a car - you simply jump on the ultra reliable post bus. The problem with Gargellen is that I can't help but rave about the place and friends think I'm a little map when they look at the piste map, until they finally get there and then they get it. Anyway the Heimspitze is a fabulous 'boutique' type hotel. It's small, but with beautifully appointed rooms, out of this world cuisine and great service. It exudes calm and style but without pretension. You can ski back to the hotel and it's just a stroll to the lift station. My single criticism or should I say observation, is that there is no swimming pool; but then again the last thing I want to do on a sking trip is swim.....

We found this gem of a hotel 10 years ago, when we were looking for a place in Austria for hiking which was unspoiled and in lovely countryside and had a hotel with comfortable accomodation, great service,and wonderful food. After doing a lot of research, we found the Heimspitze. We have traveled the world for many years and never found a Hotel quite like it. There is a family atmosphere and comfort like no other and you just never want to leave this wonderful place. We, after 10 years of spending our summers there, are the new guests. Many we met have come to the Heimspitze as children with their parents and are now returning with their own children. Some have, over the years gone to other places and hotels, but all come back and say " There is nothing like the Heimspitze". If you like hiking, this is the place. We will be going skiing for the first time this Christman/New Year and expect it will be just as perfect and lovely as our summer holidays. Everyone who has come year after year says so.We have talked to people who have skied everywhere and told us, that this is the place! We just returned from a wonderful Summer Holiday at this fantastic Hotel. Everything is first class, the rooms, which are spotless and extremely comfortable, the service, the location and of course the absolutely amazing food. It boasts a fabulous wine list and a knowledgeable wine steward along with a very helpful service staff. It is a most friendly, family run Hotel and we can't imagine a better place to stay. The Hotel itself is lovely and beautifully furnished; all in all it is outstanding in every way. And not to forget of course, the hiking there is awesome! Kevin USA

The Hotel Heimspitze in Gargellen is just outstanding in every aspect. It is a small traditional Hotel in a side valley of the Montafon. Gargellen is a small station set in a peaceful and beautiful landscape, still not conquered by large masses of tourists. Gargellen counts in the off-season less than 100 inhabitants. A mountain river crosses the village. At the lovely chapel that is five minutes’ walk from the hotel; Sunday mass is held on Saturday’s at 17.30 hrs. The Heimspitze is a family run hotel with 19 rooms of which half of them are suites. The service has a personal touch. The rooms are comfortable furnished, the beds give a good sleep; the bathroom is bright and furnished with nice toiletries. Towels are changed twice a day, when needed. The rooms are kept in a sphere of “Gemütlichkeit”. A room decorated as a “Bauernstube” has been converted into a library. Mrs Thöny the Owner is since 50 years in the hotel and looks after the wellbeing of her guests and ensures that all is kept in excellent order. The restaurant serves delicious food of high quality. For guest on half pension a 5 course dinner is served, an absolute must. The food is exquisite in a mix of traditional Austrian and sophisticated French cuisine. Especially the desserts are full of imagination und beautifully presented. A large wine card is available, but also draft lager and Weizenbier is served. The hotel has a small spa with Sauna and steam bath. In summer long chairs are put in the garden. A small zoo with 3 lamas and some ducks and goose are in the back towards the mountain side. I would appreciate as a small gesture to foreign tourists; that at least one English and French TV channel is switched on. Staying at the Heimspitze in Gargellen is a sure bet. We were delighted about our stay and rejoice already to be back soon.

Wonderful stay, exceptional on all aspects: warm yet discreet welcome, a family has been running this hotel since 3 generations, with their kind staff, in several languages, making sure all goes well, all the time. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful view (think of the best possible spot in Gargellen, that's just it), wonderful, tasty and creative food prepared with fresh local ingredients (think fresh eggs, from the owner's hens!), and cosy, charming facilities including a bar with a fireplace, great music and billiard, sauna, hammam, library, playroom... simply unforgettable!

Me and my husband decided to go to Austria and stay at the Alpenhotel Heimspize after reading a glowing review about the inn from a couple who had stayed at many European ski resorts. Well I’m here to say it exceeded our wildest dreams. From the moment we arrived we were not only taken by the beauty of the town but the elegance of the inn. Amelia , whose family has owned the inn for over 100 years has now taken the reins. We were so impressed by her. The inn itself was so enchanting, filled with items and furnishings from by gone days. We throughly enjoyed the adorable outside bar that served as a place for guest to gather after skiing or hiking. The rooms are spacious, well appointed, extremely clean and we also had a balcony! Every detail is attended to. No stone is left unturned. When we left in the morning and returned from dinner in the evening our beds were made or turned down. The fluffy robe was an added bonus as we used them for the sauna and steam room. The service staff were professional , knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. Now for the restaurant…. We were a little hesitant to take the half board option for the 6 nights we stayed but we couldn’t have been happier. Everything the chef prepared was exquisite! Many of the dishes were prepared using items from the garden that had been frozen or preserved. The breakfast was also wonderful. We give it 5 stars!! We hope to return soon !!! - [ ]
