Staybridge Suites Benton Harbor - ST. Joseph

I was reluctant to book this Staybridge. Because of the negative reviews. On the positive side:Jesse was very nice. We will return because of them. Please check your room and take photos of the room. You don’t want to charged for prior damages. Also, housekeeping doesn’t empty garbage nor give replacement towels.

Overpriced for what you get. We had a 2 room suite, which was nice for space. The real issue was we could hear the people above us, which had kids that yelled, ran, jumped, and whatever else. They apparently had no adult supervision because they were loud early in the morning and late at night. Breakfast was blah...glad we brought our own. They ran out of towels..how do you do that? They "made a compromise" with me that if I leave them a 5 star review, they would let us check out at 12 instead of 11. They lost power, someone was stuck on the elevator. We were there about 10 minutes after power was lost and no signs or sounds of emergency responders. Would we stay here again...probably not.

The most outstanding thing about this property was the staff. Every staff member that I interacted with was friendly, welcoming and professional. The rooms are large and comfy, with plenty of amenities. The breakfast was good, well stocked and clean. The location worked out well for our trip to go to the beach.

My husband & I have stayed here twice this summer. The first stay was nearly perfect, I was pleasantly surprised given I had read some unfavorable reviews of this hotel. We were able to use nearly all the amenities and the room was large and sparking clean. The second stay, which occurred August 17th, was pretty much the opposite and echos other reviews here. While the employees who helped us get checked in & out were very nice, the room was much smaller but had the same size bed, which didn’t make sense to me. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed. There was lotion smeared on the wall. The body wash was empty in the shower. The sheets & bathroom were clean, however. I slipped and fell on the tiles surrounding the pool and cut my knee on a sharp edge. The first aid kit in the pool area did have what was needed to patch me up, but beware the tiles are very slick, even while walking. The breakfast was a disaster, lots of food was out and people waiting. I got a banana that was so unripe it was completely inedible. We chose to skip the other breakfast items. Lastly, while drying my hair with the room’s hairdryer, the circuit tripped in the bathroom and not only cut power to the vanity area, but the actual bathroom itself, and it fried the hairdryer. Given these issues and what I feel was a pretty high price point ($179 for a weeknight) we won’t be coming back. The value for the money isn’t there and there’s no shortage of hotels in Benton Harbor.

We’re glad we found this hotel to accommodate our family and our furry family member Zoey. It’s one of the nicest and cleanest facility we’ve stayed at that welcomes pets. Nice quiet location not very far from the beach. Thank you for welcoming us as this was Zoey’s last vacation with us.

We stayed at the hotel just this last weekend. We had 2 rooms for 2 nights. There was a smell of cigarettes in our room. The room was not cleaned while we were there even though we were out of the room for several hours. When I called down to the desk for more towels, no one answered. I left a message and no one called back. The price of the room was increased for the weekend which was excessive.

At check-in the lobby was not very clean but it is winter and snow and salt are easy to make things very dirty. Upon checking into my room, it had the most overwhelming smell of body odor, the sofa had giant stains on the cushions and the cushions were flipped over and on the sofa backwards, I can only imagine with the other sides looked like. I couldn’t bear to stay in this room so I went downstairs and ask for another. I was given another room that I checked into smelled clean however when I went to use the bathroom and put the toilet seat down it was covered in urine. I promptly checked out & went to another hotel.
