The Poplar Inn

My husband and I had the loveliest of stay at The Poplar Inn with Susan the owner. We first saw this Inn 2 years ago whilst taking a stroll around Banff on our first holiday to the Rockies and we thought then what a pretty Victorian house. Since then we promised ourselves to stay there on our next trip to Banff! And we were not disappointed! We stayed in the Larch Room. The accommodation is fantastic - a super king bed; which was soo comfy, super soft flannel sheets to keep extra cosy with the wintery weather outside, lots of space to unpack and storage for clothes. A great bathroom with great shower (and shampoo etc included). A separate entrance for guests and use of a communal area with table and chairs, sofa, tea/coffee etc. The breakfasts were incredible too! On the first morning we had an egg on an English muffin with avocado, salsa and bacon. Sooo delicious! The second morning we had amazing homemade blueberry pancakes with syrup. Plenty of coffee provided and delicious juice. Susan was a lovely host, really friendly and it was really nice that she joined us during breakfast to get to know us. We honestly had such a great stay at The Poplar Inn. It's in a great location in town too - just a few blocks walk to the main street for all the shopping. Occasionally you can hear the honk of a CPR train in the distance as it passes through Banff station and that just adds to the experience - such a wonderful Canadian sound!! Free parking outside the house too. We loved the whole experience! We will definitely be back!! Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Visiting Banff and the surrounding area, we stayed at this lovely place. Its first class interiors and great setting, makes for a nice experience. Right near the amenities and a good choice of restaurants, I can definitely recommend the Poplar.

What a marvellous start to our tour of the Rockies. Thank you Susan. A lovely host serving us a varied and ample breakfast. Unlimited coffee if you wanted it. Staying for a chat while we ate she gave us advice on what we planned to do that day. There are only 2 bedrooms on the ground floor sharing a joint lounge cum breakfast room. The rooms were clean and tidy each with an en-suite bathroom and a patio door into the garden. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre where all the facilities of beautiful Banff are at your disposal. Its location means you can park right outside the front gate. This is quite a novelty in Banff as so many of the larger hotels have limited parking. Opposite, and I mean right opposite is the Bow river where my wife took her morning run along the banks. Wild elk were grazing there in the early morning. Why stay in a dull hotel when you can stay here.

I am surprised more reviews did not comment on the poor beds. It is one of the more important if not the main factor in a good stay. You can easily here noise from the other room. More so than from a typical hotel. Location is good. Parking is right in front. The rooms were clean.

This place does not exist anymore! I'd planned my trip for close to one year. I know how popular the area is, so I booked a stay at The Poplar Inn to celebrate my and my Mom's (of blessed memory) Birthdays. Having travelled from California, I was at a total loss to discover that there is no Poplar Inn. Now, after the fact, I'm even more shocked to discover that is is still listed all over the hotel lodging sites. This meant I was without a roof over my head for three nights in Banff. This is criminal. Had it not been for the good fortune of my meeting very kind people, it would have been an absolute safety risking nightmare. I'm a small, single woman. It was raining. There were no spare rooms anywhere in peak season. Shame on you for advertising this. Rather, shame on former owner Susan Jacubiz for not bothering to inform anyone of the failed attempt to renew this paltry attempt to make money under the guise of an honest, family-friendly B&B.
