Slipway Hotel Motel

This hotel/motel offers a place to stay in the middle of Ballina which is reasonably priced. The room we stayed in was clean. The only thing I could fault it on was that the wifi was very slow. The screen door had tears in it. We had dinner in their bistro which was delicious.

Never even made it to the hotel.... Tried organising a bus, waited outside the motel we were staying at for nearly half an hour past our pick up time (6pm) knowing that there was only a 2 hour window for their last bus for it not to come. Rang & the girl was laughing & then said oops he's still sitting here... Told her to forget it because I won't support crap service, went to Cherry St Bowlo & it was great... Good food, good service & pokies that pay .

I often go to the Slipway for lunch with family & friends, however, not anymore. Today was the third time that I have ordered the steak & chips for lunch asking for the steak to be cooked medium to well done, leaning more to well done. Each time the steak has been rare. When I return it the cook puts it back on the grill (with the gravy still on it). Today I, politely, refused to accept it. I asked for the manager & was told he wasn't on the premises. I wrote out a complaint, for the manager & surprise some man took it straight to the cook & had a good laugh over it. I wasn't even offered my money back. Absolutely disappointed in the lack of professionalism at the Slipway. Shame on them. Would not recommend.

It all started when we walked in and the cook referred to us as “walking ATM’s”. Didn’t get any better. Beer was off, replaced with an on tap beer. Sitting at a table with small children, had to listen to the vulgarity from the kitchen staff. Witnessed kitchen staff wiping their nose then touching food. Needless to say, the “walking ATM” and party of 9 walked away. Really disappointing for tourists with family in the area to be treated with such disdain. Sad news for this establishment is we spent 100’s of dollars elsewhere over the next 2 nights. Good thing this “walking ATM” has legs.

Absolutely the last resort for accommodation Rooms are “bleach clean” sheets clean, bathroom tiny, outlook is to a car park, no microwave, jug was not useable due to foreign matter inside it, pillows were wafer thin. The whole place has seen much better days. The Pub served decent food at a great price, staff were pleasant but would never stay in the room again

I dont know how this place rated more than a 2 star. I know Ballina is under accommodation pressure due to many workmen repairing after the flooding, but this is about a $70 room with a $140 price tag. On arrival noted the smallest pillow I have ever had. Had to get more. They talk about free parking, but all the pub patrons seem to park there, so the motel has very little if any. Rooms badly need a renovation. It would seem that they got some small flooding and just cleaned up and kept going. Needs painting badly and renovating. No microwave or toaster. One good thing is that it is centrally located. Shower hot water took at least 5-10 minutes to get hot. At one stage I was going to ask if we could shower somewhere else and then it came good. Room was clean and bed comfortable, so if you are happy with that then forget the rest I guess. Plenty of other accommodation around, but be prepared to pay a lot more.
