Hotel Miramar Badalona

We needed a break and wanted to see a friend who lives in Badalona, so as this seems to be the only hotel on the sea front we booked it. I used to work in the travel industry in Barcelona so it was nice to be close to the city but not stay there. We had a warm welcome when we arrived and the receptionist confirmed that I would get gluten free bread for breakfast as I am coeliac. The room was large enough and the bathroom was very clean and in better condition that many I have stayed in. OK between the hotel and the sea is the railway line which may distract some people but we were not aware of it. In the quiet of the night you can hear the waves gently lapping on the beach. Breakfast is buffet style and as soon as I entered the restaurant in the mornings I was presented with my basket of gluten free bread and muffins. As already mentioned in another review there was an issue with the orange juice machines, but someone was always on hand to use the manual juicer. We ate in the restaurant twice in the evenings, it's not open on Saturday and Sunday evenings. The chef was only too pleased to tell me what could be cooked gluten free and I was never disappointed. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm as there was constant heat from the radiator. It is about 10 minuted walk from the railway station then , with trains about every 20 minutes into Barcelona for a 10 minute ride which makes this hotel a reasonable alternative to staying in the centre of Barcelona.

What an absolute gem of a hotel we found here! This was my second trip to this region of spain, having learnt valuable lessons from my first venture I decided I wanted to be a little bit separated from the business of Barcelona but close enough to the action when I wanted to join in. We stayed on the 4th floor with a sea view terrace and it was everything I could hope for. Directly overseeing the beach was perfect for an unobscurred view of the sunrise. As some have mentioned, it is a little outdated, however all areas were kept clean and tidy and with a view like ours, who cares if a couple of lampshades need updating! You get what you pay for and this hotel was an absolute bargain for such a central area of badalona that was close short (5/10 mins) walking distance to both train and metro stations, connecting you to all the hotspots of Barcelona within less than 20mins . Tip: invest in a Hola Travel Card on your first day (available to buy online or from a ticket machine within the station). For a 4 day travel card it was only €30 and gave us access to metro and bus from, Montjuïc funicular, urban railway, trams and Barcelona regional mainline trains . This made seeing several different sites each day easy and painless. Storytime: Unfortunately within an hour of us checking in a Major power cut effecting several different European countries occurred grinding most of Spain to a halt, planes, trains and buses all stopped (even taxis as no traffic lights were working) We hadn't had time to even find an ATM so we had no money whatsoever, unable to pay by card so we were looking at a very hungry day ahead of us... Cue Hotel Miramar to the rescue! The wonderful couple who ran the hotel, very kindly offered us €50 on faith alone to enable us to get some supplies to see us through and were only too happy to hand over light refreshments that they stocked too. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful on our interactions. If we come back to Badalona/ Barcelona, Hotel Miramar will be where we're at! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I recently went to the Spanish GrandPrix and stayed in Badalona rather than the city of Barcelona. The place has a very nice atmosphere and is not really a tourist place. The cafes and restaurants where all really nice and great value. The hotel is basic but clean and the staff very helpful. The beach is right in front of the hotel and I swam in the sea which was fine. Rail links to the city are super , only two stops from Clot Argo where you change to get a direct train to the GP. Another good tip is buy your tickets at the track and save loads of money compared to buying on line. A three day pass for the GP was 130 euros. This is for general admission but on several days you can get access to most areas later on. I also went to the Nou Camp to see Barca play and bought the ticket at a tourist info centre .
