Chateau Chantore is a step back in time when minor royalty lived in extensive grounds. Bernard and Inake are passionate collectors of Louis XI art and artefacts. The public spaces are filled with furniture, portraits, ceramics and other collections. Certainly not a place for young children to run around. We were met, after some delay by Inake, who read out a list of dos and don'ts including specific parking instructions. By the time he finished, we felt really nervous! Our room and the massive bathroom,on the first floor (no lift) was spectacular with views of the grounds and horses in the paddock. At breakfast next day, the other partner, Bernard presided and presented breakfast - I say presented because he didn't just slap some food down but made every course seem like theatre. While the food items are not very different from a typical continental breakfast, the service, at a large communal table was exceptional. He also takes a keen interest in your day and is ready with suggestions and tips. A walk around the English gardens is a must. A memorable stay - a quibble would be the horny peacock on the grounds who would give out his mating call, startling you awake from your dreams. (Horses, white swans and 4 pea hens are fellow denizens in the Chateau grounds)
