"Disappointing Stay at El Terado Terrace (Room 110) – Major Cleanliness & Safety Issues El Terado Terrace is deceiving from the outside. While the grounds look like they promise a comfortable island stay, the reality inside—at least in Room 110—was a major disappointment. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this property to others. Check-In & Service: Arrival was completely unattended. Instead of a staff member, we found four sets of room keys sitting on the counter with guest names clearly written on the holders, which felt like an unnecessary privacy concern. When we departed for town the next morning, the check-in window was still empty. We had to ask a bystander by the BBQ area, who pointed out an employee. When we reported the live cockroach in our kitchen, her only response was a flat, "OK, thanks"—no apology, no follow-up, and zero offer to address the issue. Room & Cleanliness Issues (Room 110): While the room itself was spacious, that was its only redeeming quality. Pest Control: We discovered a live cockroach crawling out from under the microwave when we went to use it. Opening the drawers revealed dead cockroaches and signs of egg casings. A clearly visible gap under the exterior door likely explains how they are getting in. Kitchen & Housekeeping: Beyond the pests, the side of the refrigerator facing the stove was plastered in months of built-up food and oil splatters. Furthermore, the kitchen island counter separating the kitchen from the sleeping area had liquid splatter on the wall right next to the bed—something easily visible that should have simply been wiped down with a cloth and sanitary solution by housekeeping. Bathroom: The shower head was caked in brown gunk, and the grout/edges showed signs of mold. The exhaust fan didn't work at all (we later learned online that you apparently have to request a separate remote for it, which was never mentioned to us). Maintenance & Housekeeping: The electrical outlets were loose and felt unsafe to plug anything into. For our 3-night stay, the beds were merely remade each day with the same unwashed sheets. Location & Accessibility: As other reviews mention, the walk down into the main part of Avalon is down a steep hill, making the walk back up quite a workout. Be prepared for a hike if you are traveling by foot. Verdict: Room 110 is in desperate need of basic maintenance, deep cleaning, pest treatment, and modern updating. Between the complete lack of customer service, safety concerns, and infestation, this property falls far short of acceptable standards."
