There are already plenty of reviews attesting to Josygaard’s coziness and beautiful location. I wish to add an anecdote conveying the extraordinary kindness of the hosts. I was a solo traveller without a vehicle. Apparently, as the hosts told me, in all their years no other guest had ever stayed there who didn’t come by car. However, it is doable by bus, although they are few and far between in off-season and not every new driver may know where the Kalvatn stop is (lucky there is GPS). Walking through the 2 tunnels at either end of the road passing Kalvatn is strictly prohibited and hitching a ride is extremely difficult. The host volunteered to give me a free ride both to the junction for the bus stop to Hellesylt (for the Geiranger ferry) and promptly picked me up there on my return. On my departure for Ålesund I waited in freezing rainy conditions by Kalvatn’s bus shelter. When the bus came, the driver neglected to turn toward the shelter despite my frantic arm-waving attempts to hail him. I thereupon phoned the hosts as no other bus was scheduled and I needed to transfer to a second bus within an hour at Volda. Immediately the hostess came and gave me a free ride all the way to Volda which arrived there even before the bus I had missed! She had no other reason to go to Volda that day, not for groceries or anything else, and after dropping me off, drove straight back home. Meanwhile, her husband had phoned the bus company and lodged a complaint on my behalf. They expected absolutely nothing from me in return. I’ve very seldom come across hosts who have gone to such lengths to serve the interests of a departing guest. My sincerest thanks to them.
