I recently visited Cowarth Park with a close friend visiting from America — her very first time in England, and we wanted to make it truly special. We had a beautiful lunch in The Barn (which was delicious), followed by a delightful buggy ride around the grounds. The driver was charming and knowledgeable, and we were thoroughly enjoying the experience. My friend was particularly excited to see the horses, having heard so much about the equestrian facilities. However, when we arrived near the stables, the experience took a sharp turn. A woman, who we now understand may be called Gemma, was unnecessarily rude to us and made my friend feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. Her tone was abrupt and dismissive, with no explanation or courtesy. It was not only upsetting to my friend — who was visibly shaken — but it also left the poor buggy driver looking thoroughly embarrassed. This behaviour was completely at odds with the otherwise wonderful service and hospitality we experienced throughout the rest of the estate. It’s a shame, as it tainted what had been a truly magical afternoon. I now understand she’s actually the manager which is even more disturbing.
