Boutique Hotel the River House

We had a wonderful meal there (make a reservation as there are not a lot of tables). Delighful negroni from the bar and we each had the steak with potato au gratin and vegetables - was delish and just the right amount of food. Reasonably priced.

During the evening the was authentic Swiss music in the bar/restaurant. We like to hear this and have some nice drinks and chats with the people in the bar and behind the bar. There was a nice and cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Furthermore the restaurant was very clean.

Very nice / friendly hôtel. Everything is clean as expected. Room was very nice. Owners flexible and are trying to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Breakfast is good with great products. They also have a good little restaurant and a nice terrasse to be enjoyed.

We stayed a night at River House and had a perfect stay. Easy to find at the heart of Andermatt, with reserved parking a short distance away. First impressions were great, and those impressions continued throughout the stay. Welcomed by Kevin, on of the owners. Our room was really nicely appointed and homely. And immaculately clean. We loved it. We spent a pleasant couple of hours in the bar before dinner (we ate out but the hotel's food looked great) and again for a nightcap later. Slept well. Breakfast was just right and again everyone was welcoming and friendly. It is amazing to think that the hotel's main renovation was completed so long ago because it looks brand new - and that says a lot for the care and attention that is put in to running it. Beautiful place to stay while in Andermatt. The location is excellent. The views from the hotel are beautiful. The rooms are really good - very clean and comfortable. The front desk staff are friendly and the service is great. Loved staying here.

I visited Alt Apothec, the restaurant at the River House Hotel, during a recent vacation to Andermatt with my family. We ordered our meal with the help of an excellent server and enjoyed the food. While our table was quite small for three people, we still had a nice meal and conversation with the family at the table next to us. It wasn’t until the end of our visit that our experience was upsetting. The owner made negative comments about Americans, including references to the wastefulness of most Americans and their inclination to order dessert without finishing their meals. This was after we had all finished our meals and didn’t order dessert. When the restaurant’s credit card reader did not work, the owner was unwilling to take our information to process the transaction the following day. He told us Americans have walked out on their bill in the past. He raised his voice and hit his hand on our table. We were required to pay for the meal in cash. The experience was upsetting and so different from all of our other experiences in Andermatt. We visited many wonderful restaurants during our vacation and they were all outstanding. We highly recommend this ski area and hope to return, but we would not recommend Alt Apothec.
