The stay was just about adequate. I checked in around midnight of day 1 since my train reached ASR late. I was parked in a small room at the hotel even though I had booked a 'superior room' as I wanted a bigger room. Since it was late I did not object then.
Next morning i approached the Reception to change my room and was told that they did not have a superior room available. I then had to tell them that I had a confirmed booking for superior room and if they could not provide me suitable room then I should be refunded the difference in room rates. After that I was told that I would be given a bigger room after a few hours once some guest checked out.
I then visited the Golden Temple and on return after about 4 hours my room was indeed changed.
However, the promised complimentary fruit basket and cookie jar were not given in room for which I had to again take up with the Reception. So I was given the fruit basket (which was quite okay) and the so-called cookie jar which consisted of a packet of ordinary biscuits costing all of Rs. 10. the cookie jar was a disaster.
The breakfast was an adequate spread withonly boiled eggs available (in eggs category), no fruit juice, only cut papaya (in fruits category), poori bhaji (which was good) and some cold cutlets, To be fair even butter and jam with bread slices (or toast) were available, as also veg sandwiches. However, the tea was readymade and excessively sweetened with no choice of sugarless tea (which I prefer).
My grouse was against the hotel location which was on GT Road and hence the traffic outside my room was not only very noisy but also very chaotic. There was no decent restaurant within easy walking distance of the hotel and even the Golden Temple was a good 20 minutes away by motorised transport - not what I had exected when the website said that Golden Temple was 8 mins away.
All in all an adequate stay at best for me. On a repeat visit to Amritsar I won't be staying at this same hotel again.
