Hotel Akureyri Dynheimar

Check in took a while as loads of people were checking in at the same time. We were given a code for our room and directions to the other part of the hotel. Compact but good rooms enough space for our 2 nights, rainfall walk in shower. Good sized TV, guitar on the wall, enough space for 2 nights. Needs 2 hooks in bathroom for towels and some hooks on the wall as you walk in for coats bags etc as there is no hanging space other than 1 hook on the back of the door. Parking is limited outside the door of this building but plenty of parking outside main hotel free a short walk up the road. Free breakfast in the main hotel building.breakfast area is small but can sit downstairs in the main reception area if no space. Staff weren’t ready when breakfast opened at 7am with the tongs forks etc so people were touching all the bread and picking at things. They should close the area off until they are completely ready. Area is not big enough for amount of guests, for example one toaster with 4 slice option. Food available was bread cereal crackers ham coffee tea flat white 1 type cookie or small croissant no hot food options. When checking out there was no one on reception until 8am and had no other way of checking out earlier. We had to call and leave card at reception behind the desk.

Very cool place, in an old cinema and movie + music related decor. Comfy bed, shower, excellent location with free public parking right next to it. Breakast was AMAZING, bread freshly baked, fresh fruit, amazing cheeses. Everybody very attentive and helpful. We got a good discount as there were renovations being done, but it was no bother at all.

Negatives- place is very much style over substance. The well dressed and informative looking emails have links that dont go anywhere, the email address doesnt work and they bounce back, the map sends you to new york and when you call the number it appears to be another hotel but one reception manages 4 buildings, No security or support to the building we stayed in, but its iceland, key codes on the outside door and bedroom door. Bathroom very clean but the clear box of the bathroom illuminates the whole room not ideal when there are two of you and one needs the toilet in the night, the fan/ ventilation wasnt very effective. The very stylish mirror and sink are in the room not the bathroom and the light for this has a very large green blowing button, which you cant turn off, and lights most of the room. The pull down blinds arent wide enough for the window, dont fall over the edges of the window so the street light outside our room came though both sides, hard to sleep due to the various lights in the room, im glad we werent here in summer. TV initially didnt work, had to reset and log into the wifi, seems noone checks or clears the internet, opened onto a less than desirable pages from whoever was prev in the room, Staff were helpful over fixing the TV and the internet. However some staff unhelpful (and a bit rude) over the phone and also with checking in, given the wrong key code and felt we were bothering staff with questions. Nice selection of tea , coffee and snacks, however not refilled once in the 4 days we stayed, not even the tea, coffee or milk. Info book in the room, very confusing and difficult to read and follow. Partly its in English with bits of icelandic and historical and random papercuttings, very stylish but also not useful. Breakfast, insanely busy, 3 of the 4 days hard to get a seat or table , felt overcrowded and waiting on food and the buffet to be refilled. The room was far to small for the number of people they were catering for. Positives ⁃ Free onsite parking. Very clean and cool/ well presented. Breakfast was delicious.

Was lovely to stay there. Very friendly stuff!!! Parking was just in front of the hotel, the buffet for breakfast was great as well and the rooms were clean and very cosy. Especially the rooms were amazing and full of details which made it feel like a home. A lot of creativity went into each room for sure!

This place was great! the cost was reasonable and the room was fantastic, including retro turntable and albums! Convenient location a few steps from downtown. My wife and I had a very nice time here! I definitely recommend it.

Great location, free parking in front of hotel and walkable to all sites. Due to covid, we did not see staff, but the hotel and rooms are very clean. The rooms are a bit small, not much space to move around. We had two rooms. In one of the rooms we had to keep the sink drain closed due to a stench. Other than that we would stay again.
