On arrival at 1am which was only slightly later than expected, there was nobody to meet us. We had to wonder around looking for our room. We had no access to air conditioning so therefore had a sleepless night. This was a poor start to the holiday. The hotel is usual Greek standard, nice towels and a spectacular view. The owner has an entourage of returning guests who she holds counsel with all day in the bar. It felt like a them and us situation, her son is extremely nice and made up for the odd situation there. Elounda is fabulous and I will return but not to this establishment.

Just returned from a fabulous holiday at Tasmania Village. It was our first visit and will definitely not be our last. We were made to feel very welcome by the family owners Maria, George and Yannis. We had one of the studios at the front of the building looking out onto the bay and Spinalonga. It was basic but adequate for our needs. Beds were extremely comfortable and there was a fridge, cooking facilities and kettle. The bathroom is a wet room and the water was hot all the time. The food at the pool bar is delicious and reasonably priced. Always able to get a sunbed whatever time of the day. The apartments are between Elounda Village (30 minute slow stroll) and Plaka (40 minute slow stroll). The walk at night back from Elounda is well lit and I would have felt safe even on my own. We did it a few times well after midnight. As advertised the apartments are on a steep hill therefore may not suit those with walking difficulties but the view is worth the climb. Local taxis are very good and not expensive and they will drive up the hill for you. Until next time, thank you to our Taz family for a lovely holiday. We will see you again

Just to say that everything in the Tasmania village is clean and totally friendly. We are repeat customers and highly recommend. If you want 5 star go to a 5star resort. The rooms are totally adequate and we don't stay long in our rooms. The dogs on site are well looked after and happy. Great with everyone and walked regularly . The views are amazing and so are all the staff. This is a down to earth place to stay, no pretentious, normal people, great atmosphere. X

Location has a good sea view, there is a steep hill, it didn’t bother us. Maria is friendly and her family the food is good but limited I ate eggs and omelette my daughter had cheese and ham toasty. Paid for room upgrade with TUI for 1 bed apartment, no window in bedroom like sleeping in a closet. Basic room, small terrace, not like photos advertised, only 2 small windows and a front door, no patio doors like advertised or windows like photos on TUI website, there was noise from from apartments above and next door, you can hear them using toilet and in the bedroom there is a drains smell. The sun beds are reserved at the pool and there isn’t enough umbrellas, therefore we only used the pool 3 times, we walked 8 mins to the beach at the Royal Marim Bay hotel and paid 30 euros for 2 beds and umbrella and 2 towels, food at the beach bar there is amazing and the view is stunning. We also ate in the sushi and fish restaurants at the hotel which were both delicious. We walked into Elouda a few evenings about 30 mins taxi is 8 euros. Lovely restaurants by the sea and Marina, good supermarket. Go to Despina about 10 mins walk stunning view and delicious seafood and good service. We were both heart broken about the 2 female dogs kept on very short leases at Tasmania Village they can’t walk far from there concrete kennels, they were very friendly but left alone for long hours, we seen one of them eating her own poo. They looked like they had puppies recently. Why have dogs and treat them like this, I have 2 dogs and they are with me constantly and walked twice for at least 3 hours a day, and are never chained up, we just could not understand how this is acceptable these days, even in Crete. email and ask for water before you arrive to be left in fridge. No blanket or quilt provided only one pillow and a sheet on a double bed and you have to pay extra for air con, we loved Elounda but we would not stay at Tasmania again.

I have lived and worked in Greece for many years and so hope I give a fair review. This was our first trip to Elounda. The description of Tasmania village was accurate with a large steep hill to the apartments. We arrived at 10.30pm and were very surprised that there was no one available on site to greet us. The pool bar is advertised to be open until 11/12 pm depending on signage but was closed. We had to find our way to our room and had no water or food. We wandered around trying to find a shop but there is nothing in the location. Facebook comments indicate that you can request water for your room from the proprietor if you know this in advance. The rooms are basic as expected in Greece. There was a kitchen with electric rings, fridge and kettle. The shower was a walk in with no shower curtain. We only had our bins emptied once during the week including sheet and towel change. The pool bar opens at 9am and you cannot access the pool before this. We are early birds so found this a little late for us,. The food was good and reasonably priced. There was a lack of atmosphere in the evening so best to visit Elounda for entertainment. Elounda is a 15-20 min walk along the beach which had all the shops, restaurants and bars. You can catch a boat here to Spinalonga. The two hotels next door to the apartments can get noisy late at night but it is generally peaceful with excellent views. Overall we had a pleasant stay - although the weather was changeable! The thing which we found the most unpleasant was the way the 2 dogs were treated at the property. They were the most gentle and friendly dogs but were chained all day and night. During the week, they went out once in the truck but that was it. Their water was changed every other day when their outside pens were also washed down. They both had wounds where they had to sleep on concrete. They were fed once a day and were not skinny but lacked interaction and affection from humans. Yes this is Greece but minimal care should still be provided. Whilst we were in Crete, we visited Takis’ shelter in Lerapetra. Worth a visit as Takis is doing great work! We also saw a lot of pampered Greek pets in Elounda being walked by their owners! They don’t poo pick though so expect lots of poo around !

WOW! What a beautiful place. Maria and George wonderful hosts. Nothing to much trouble. For an authentic Cretian experience with outstanding views of Spelalonga this is where to go. I will be another of Maria and George's guests who will return next year . Outstanding.

The most amazing staff, such a peaceful location we had the best time. Maria was so helpful with booking us taxis and other stuff. Was so quiet hardly anyone sat by the pool. We stayed in apartment 23 which unfortunately didn’t have a window in the bedroom but that was okay, aircon was not needed the apartments are naturally really cool. Bar had a good selection of drinks and nice food too! Would say it’s about a 30/40 minute walk to Elounda depending on how fast you want to be, we walked it the first couple of days but taxis are only about €8 so we got taxis there and back. Thank you to Maria for such a wonderful stay we hope to be back

We have just returned from yet another amazing holiday staying at the Tasmania Village. Everything about it is fabulous but what makes it so special is the wonderful family who give such a lovely warm welcome to both repeat and first time visitors and go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful time. It is just on the outskirts of Elounda but it is a lovely flat walk along the seafront and you can always get a taxi back at a very reasonable cost. Yes there is a bit of a hill this is mentioned in other reviews/website and the photos and description also show this but without the hill you wouldn't have the wonderful views. If mobility is a bit of an issue there are also studios at the bottom of the accommodation below the swimming pool. The cafe bar is great for snacks, meals and drinks and the food is lovely. The swimming pool is gorgeous and you can always get a sunbed without any problems I hope to return again next year to beautiful Elounda and the wonderful Tasmania Village. It's one very special place
