Afton House Inn

We just had a 3 day (4 nights) meeting at Afton House Inn. Everything about our time was great. The staff and the service we received was above and beyond our expectations. The breakfast in our meeting space and the lunches at Current were also great. They paid close attention to details and met some unique dietary needs. We had one dinner in the Fine Dining Restaurant which was amazing. Our room was clean and comfortable and we slept well. The only complaint I have is that the fall colors didn't turn in time for us!!!

My girlfriend and I went to the area for a concert. We travelled from Wisconsin to go to this show and ate some fast food along the way. We arrived at the hotel and the smell of the place plus the food caused my girlfriend to not feel well. We asked about the cancellation/return policy at the front desk and they were kind of rude. They looked disgusted with us. Anyways, before even cancelling, let alone give our name, we went to the concert. After the concert, we drove 25 minutes back to the Afton House just to find out they sold our room to another couple. We didn’t even give our names! They wouldn’t agree to a refund. They pride that their place is historic and has been around for centuries - I warn you all that they aren’t lying, it sure smells like it hasn’t been renovated let alone cleaned in centuries!

We stayed in the double bedroom suite. It was quiet and clean. We had the place to ourselves because of off season. Fortunately, the weather was nice for 2 days. It is only 30 min to Mall of America in case you need something to do inside. Which we did because of a rainy day. The place does need some upgrades. We saw peeling wallpaper and missing soffit and siding. They said they had a bad wind storm and had not gotto the repairs yet. It in no way impacted our stay. They had breakfast ready then the earlier time because we were the only ones there and they care about their guests! They cater the food to your likes and dislikes. We tried the Current restaurant on site and it was good. I liked the turkey burger and sweet potato fries! It can get noisy because of the sound echoing off the walls and floor but we didn't have a problem because there was only a handful of people there at the time. Overall a great place to stay!

We were traveling nearby for a concert in ST Paul MN and decided to book a room at the Afton House Inn as it was a quieter area and was fun to check out a more historical hotel with some pretty views around it. This was a fun place I would give it 5 stars for their Friendly and Accommodating Staff alone, Everyone we encountered there was very friendly and tried to make our stay a wonderful one. This hotel does have some darker lighting and does bring you back in time a little bit with the decor but we really enjoyed how they maintained the Historical Integrity of the place with it being the first operating Inn in Minnesota and it was also very charming and comfortable. It had a few little quirks such as with the Jacuzzi with it having well water you needed to run the water first then drain it and then run it again and was a bit warmer temperature wise overall in the hotel room. But it was fine...My husband opened up the window a little bit at night and was a mild breeze and the room was perfect. The Bed was very comfortable, Room had everything you would need for a nice hotel stay other than wasn't a coffeemaker in the room or a refrigerator however you can get coffee downstairs and there also was a coffeeshop attached to the hotel as well if you wanted coffeeshop coffee and their coffee there was really good. If you have mobility issues is a big step to get into the Jacuzzi so just be mindful of that however they do have a chair nearby it, they also have a separate shower in the room. As it is an older hotel there isn't a elevator either there are steps to get up to the rooms but rooms are very comfortable and charming and hotel was quiet we got a great nights sleep and staff were all very friendly and accomodating. It is rumored to be *******, we didn't see anything strange during our stay there other than smelled a vanilla type of tobacco smoke in the hallways...but if searching out unique locations like that might wanna check this place out. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay though and not too far outside the Twin Cities so if looking for a more charming quieter lodging option this is a good one for you and their restaurant is also very good. Also the breakfast was great, Their complimentary breakfast we had included an Omelette, Bacon, Fresh Fruit and Toast and Juice and Coffee it was prepared fresh for you at their restaurant and was great. Also there is a coffeeshop attached to the hotel called Freya's Fika Cafe that had some pretty good coffee you can check out while there or on your way home. Overall was a fun time and would absolutely stay there again if traveling thru the area. Five Stars from us due to their overall friendly and helpful hotel staff and was a fun historic hotel .

We want to thank the Afton House Inn Fine Dining Reataurant for the lovely evening we had celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on December 1, 2023. It was so great to be able to celebrate with most of our family. There were fourteen of us. Thank you for the delicious food and fantastic service from your friendly staff. I am still enjoying the remains of my lovely rose bouquet. It is a lovely reminder of our celebration at your Inn. We highly recommend this place to all our friends.

Our bedroom is so hot we had to have two fans going on and I got heat exhaustion from being in our room the excuse they had for not going our room off is cuz they wait till the gaskets in there this is in the summertime mind you it was hot did not appreciate it would never stay at that place again

Stayed for our anniversary and did the dinner cruise. The cruise was top notch and the food was excellent. The Inn is very quaint and inviting. Our room was great and you could tell they are meticulous about cleaning. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The Afton House made our anniversary special!

Painted a pumpkin with friends for wine and canvas. We had supper and the food was amazing. Great time we are going back to paint and have food. The time was good 6 to 9. The staff was efficient and kind. It was the first time for a couple of friends. They all liked it and are going back also. Back for the fabulous food and painting night

A wonderful stay at Afton Inn! We were warmly greeted and taken care of by Sara. A personal escort to our suite was a classy touch. Very attentive and pleasant staff. Room #3 is a beautifully appointed suite, wonderful hot tub, fireplace, comfy queen bed, nice back deck to enjoy. Very walkable area, which we loved. Parking was limited due to a local festival. Fun little town with unique shops, the marina and pleasant people. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The kitchen staff seemed short handed and ran out of coffee a few times, not a huge deal. Everyone is doing the best they can. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this as a nice get away.
