Atticus Central Guest House

Holidaying solo in the exhilarating great port city of Aberdeen. I’d booked for 4 nights but liked being there so much I added another. The accommodation was comfortable and super convenient for the city centre, while on a quiet seeming , residential street. Atticus B&B was definitely homely, rather than sleek, but that suited me fine . My room was comfortable and I enjoyed my continental breakfast option ( toasted potato cakes ) in my room each morning. Neil the host was very welcoming, friendly and helpful and great fun to chat with. The only slight but inescapable negative was that you have to share the two toilet and shower rooms with other guests but there was a basin in the room (and, as it happened, I had the place to myself at that less popular time of year so in fact no sharing was necessary!). I absolutely loved Aberdeen ( Yes, even in November!) including:- The beautiful , mainly silver granite, buildings. Hazlehead park and the striking Piper Alpha oil rig disaster memorial statue and rose garden. Excellent Art Gallery. Provost Skene’s House. A 1 1/2 hour history and street art walking tour of the city centre. The aforementioned street art itself. Duthie Park with the lovely, well kept Winter Gardens (and possibly the best park cafe I’ve had the pleasure of eating at). Bus North up the coast to Balmedie from which I did a long, very scenic, sea side walk all the way back into the city. The dramatic views out to sea with tankers, other boats and a collection of wind turbines and South to the blocks of Seaton on the city’s edge added to the interest. ( Less keen walkers could do a smaller chunk of this and still enjoy the lovely blonde sand shore with sea birds pretty shells and the odd piece of beach glass. The picturesque little Footdee village below the city down by the sea A one man show at the, very conveniently nearby, Music Hall ( which has lots of stuff on). I intend to return to enjoy Aberdeen again and explore this interesting area more ( eg. More coast walking, Dunotter Castle and Peterhead old Prison etc.). I didn’t sample them but there were clearly also a host of appealing bars and other cafes for all tastes.
