Ring O Bells

The Farmers Arms

The Farmer’s Arms is a lovely pub with 4 rooms above. We had a twin room for 2 nights and was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the internet was virtually non existent, which I understand is an issue in the area, but caused difficulties planning. Car park is huge and great location as 5 minutes drive to Harlyn Bay Beach and 10 minutes to Padstow. Highly recommend The Golden Lion for dinner in Padstow and absolutely was a hidden culinary gem 💎

Anacapri

We had a very nice 5 night B&B stay at the Anacapri Hotel. Its location is literally a 2 minute walk from the lovely Gyllyngvase beach. Very friendly staff and breakfast was nice and had a good selection of choices. The rooms are on the small side but are nice and clean and it was just a base for us to stay at while we visited places around Cornwall so not an issue at all for us. There are plenty of places to eat & drink in Falmouth harbour/town centre, just a 10 minute walk away, or the beach bar/restaurant on Gyllyngvase beach serve nice food. We will return one day and would recommend it if you want a base to stay at while exploring Cornwall.

One of the loveliest places we have ever stayed. The view from the room was dream like of the sea and beach. The friendly staff and scrumptious food just added to our stay. Highly recommend. I need not have worried about the parking. It always felt safe and secure just across the road from the Hotel. Thank you for a lovely break.

Saint Ewe Wedding almost ruined ********* Lower Barns Saint Ewe Spoiled wedding ********* After reading many reviews about weddings at this venue we decided to book Lower Barns for our elopement wedding. The reviews main content was how helpful the owners are, how they help make your day so special, how nothing is too much trouble for them, well our experience was the absolute opposite. If it wasn’t for the people we are, our wedding day would have been ruined. After driving 240 miles we were greeted by Mike, whom I presume is the husband, to show us to our accommodation. The owner, Janie whom I had previously spoken to via telephone and email didn’t We booked Lower Barns wedding venue purely on the reviews. They raved about how lovely Janie and Mike are and how they’ll help make your day special and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely not the experience we had. On arrival at the venue Mike came out Janie didn’t come out or in fact ever introduce herself at any time during our 2 nights stay. The only time I saw her was during our wedding ceremony as unfortunately we had previously arranged for them to be our witnesses. During our long drive down to Cornwall my sister telephoned to say her and my brother in law are already in Cornwall and have their wedding outfits ready and a bottle of champagne to celebrate. They wanted to surprise us and be our witnesses. We were so happy and excited they had done that for us. Before showing us our accommodation, I told Mike we’d had the lovely surprise from my sister and brother in law and we’d like them to be our witnesses. Mike’s response was “we don’t like surprises” my initial thought was, it isn’t your surprise it’s ours for our wedding day. He then stated he’d go and ask Janie. We were unpacking our car when Mike returned and stated “I’ve spoken to Janie and they’ll have to pay £100 a piece if you want them as your witnesses. Bearing in mind we had paid £1500 pounds for 2 nights and £450 for Mike to be our photographer. They now wanted another 10% so my sister and brother in law can sit with us for 15 minutes. At this point I will mention that my brother in law has terminal cancer and has made the rest of his life all about making memories. Myself and my husband were not only astonished but absolutely fuming at the sheer greed. I said to the back of Mike’s head (he’d carried on walking as he told us) but they’ve driven all the way from the Midlands to which he responded “it’s in the terms and conditions”. We then had to drive into town to tell my sister and brother in law who were obviously very upset. They offered to pay the £200 to be witnesses but after discussing it at length, we decided on principle not to be held ransom for £200. The joy had been taken out of the whole experience. We’d intended on drinking champagne in the hot tub and really having a lovely time together but the atmosphere changed. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable and we both stated we couldn

We had a comfortable stay, with very comfortable single beds. The bar is traditional, well stocked and cosy, with the added bonus of live folk music on the Friday night. The restaurant was closed, but they kindly made us lasagna, which was welcome after a long drive. The room 1 was no frills - a bit dark and chilly. Shared bathrooms a bit tired. Parking about 7-10 minutes walk away. We ate out as the restaurant was closed-I think this should be mentioned on the website and would probably have influenced where we stayed, but Bude is really close, so it was handy for seeing the area.
Tencreek Holiday Park

This was our first time at Tencreek Holiday Park to use as a base to visit the surrounding villages of south Cornwall and the parks entertainment. We found that booking in was quick and easy and given the key to our static caravan. However, on entering the caravan we were met with an abundance of flies! In bringing this to the attention of staff were told this was a regular occurrence at this time of year. If we were to allocate another caravan the same problem may arise and were provided with a can of fly spray. Throughout the weekend; every morning, day and evening much time was spent cleaning up dead flies - this was wearing and relentless, over the three days we totaled 70 to 80 flies. During spraying we had to vacate our accommodation for 30 minutes or so due to the danger of inhaling the toxic fumes. Our holiday was totally unsatisfactory in many ways and we shall not be returning but wish to inform others of our findings.
Bodmin Jail Hotel

Decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my wife's 92nd birthday with 2 days in jail together with her son. She was able to surprise friends and relatives by informing them she was going to jail for both events and it certainly seemed like another one off the bucket list! I was able to make some special arrangements for both celebrations - flowers, cards, etc., and Tamsyn (Reception) in particular was most helpful in organising this for me so that they were on our table both nights. Congratulations also to the housekeeping staff for wonderful towel creations on our bed - kissing 'swans' for the anniversary and two tiered 'cake' for the birthday, with appropriate messages. The complimentary self guided tour of the jail was amazing, with interactive montages (including actual sea spray!) and a wealth of historical information - much more than we had expected. The dining room staff were extemely friendly, helpful and efficient and the meals were excellent - beautifully presented and served. We agree with some reviews that the prices were quite high in comparison to others, but assume the costs are higher too. My wife's only criticism is one she has for many hotels - they seem to be designed by men - beautiful decor and furnishing, but no 'dressing table' with lighting and mirror for make-up by the ladies. The bathroom lighting was most elegant, but behind the mirror so did not really light the viewer. However a 'beauty mirror' was available from Reception so it did ameliorate the problem a little! All in all a 5+ star stay and a memorable experience in a fascinating and historic place, so thank you to all the staff who made it so.
