[Fufu Hakone: A Luxurious Mountain Escape] Fufu Hakone is located in the quiet Gora region and seamlessly blends modern comforts with traditional Japanese ryokan hospitality. The property stands out for its unique dual hot spring experiences, providing private balcony baths with clear mineral water in every suite alongside communal pools filled with therapeutic, milky-white sulfur volcanic water. We had a wonderful one-night stay at Fufu Hakone on 28 May 2026, which included a Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. [Getting There] Our journey began with a midnight flight from Singapore, reaching Tokyo at 9:00 AM. From there, we caught the Narita Express and changed to the Tokaido Shinkansen to travel to Odawara, before making our way up to Gora. We arrived at Gora Station close to 3:00 PM to find it drizzling. Unfortunately, local taxis were completely unavailable and we could not find any vehicles on the GO app. Fortunately, we managed to get into the shelter of the tourist information centre. The lady on duty was incredibly helpful, assisting us to call Fufu Hakone for a pickup and directing us to the exact area where hotel shuttle services operate. We highly recommend that you do not attempt to walk to the resort from the station, especially in poor weather. [Arrival Experience] The moment we arrived at the resort, we were met with warm smiles and greetings. We were guided to the reception area located on the second level of the front building and seated comfortably in the lounge, where we were served hot tea. A designated staff member came over to complete our check-in process and then escorted us to our room in the guest building. The level of attentiveness was outstanding. The staff member explained every single detail in the room, including the layout of the suite, the private balcony onsen, the water temperature controls, the television, and the mini-bar, which is entirely complimentary. They also carefully went through our dinner order, taking down all of our personal preferences, likes, and dislikes. [The Suite] Our suite, named 楢の芽 (Naranome), was located on the third level. Rather than trying to describe the beautiful layout in words, I will let the accompanying photos speak for themselves. The room features two super-single beds that are incredibly fluffy and soft, with each bed featuring two plush pillows to guarantee a perfect night of sleep. The resort provided both pyjamas and a two-piece samue yukata for our stay. The pyjamas are strictly for use inside the room, while the samue yukata is intended to be worn when exploring the public areas of the property. [Dinner and Breakfast] Both the Kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were exceptional. Because many of the exquisite dishes feature seasonal ingredients that change throughout the year, please refer to my photos for a visual look at what was served during our stay. [The Ultimate Onsen Routine] To make the most of the dual hot springs, I highly recommend this routine: - Welcome Soak: Start with the light and refreshing clear mineral water on your private balcony to gently wash away travel fatigue before dinner. - Dinner and Rest: Enjoy your Kaiseki meal, then return to your suite to digest comfortably for a few hours. - Nightcap Soak: End the evening in the communal baths. The thick, milky-white sulphur volcanic water melts away muscle tension and deeply relaxes the body before sleep. [Areas for Improvement] While the stay was mostly flawless, there are two minor points to note: - Toothbrush Set: The provided toothbrush set was rather small for my liking. It felt like it took ages to finish brushing my teeth. You should definitely bring your own if this is a concern for you. - Room Attire: The two-piece samue yukata was not comfortable at all. It is not mandatory to wear it around the property, but we chose to do so anyway to fully immerse ourselves in the traditional ryokan culture.

We were looking for onsen with private bath on the balcony and probably hit the sweet spot. Unfortunately we had only 1 night stay, but it was fantastic. Onsen is located at the top station Gora, where you can get from Odawara. That’s around 2 hours from Tokyo all together, around 3 hours from Kyoto. Last 2 sections of the way are going through a picturesque steep railway. Views are great! Be sure to rush to the front or back seats (doesn’t matter which) to secure a spot for nice photographs. Private bath is fantastic, rooms are clean and spacious with a touch of ryokan style (tatami etc). That’s a perfect place to sit and relax doesn’t matter it’s sunshine or pooring rain outside. The food was fantastic (according to my wife), however the options are limited if you’re not eating fish or sea products due to allergy or other reasons. For Karaku team - I would suggest adding a signature wagyu set for those who would like something else. Selection of wine and alcohol drinks is superb. Free snacks and coffee are available till 8 p.m. as well with a view terrace. For those who like some regular conbini stuff - Lawson is around 10 mins walk with Miyazaki style trains passing by👌🏻 All in all, we wish we had stayed at least 2 nights as there are lots of activities around.  Thanks to Karaku staff for a warm welcome and tailored experience!

El jardín es precioso, tanto por la mañana como por la tarde. La habitación está en muy buen estado y muy limpia. El kaiseki es una experiencia maravillosa. El desayuno es tipo bufé. La variedad de comida es enorme (opciones occidentales y asiáticas).

Reservé la habitación de esquina más grande del hotel, pero al final resultó un poco más pequeña de lo que imaginaba. Sin embargo, los hoteles en Japón suelen ser pequeños, así que es aceptable. No hubo problema para abrir dos maletas grandes. La vista desde la ventana era bonita, y si hacía buen tiempo, se podía ver el Monte Fuji. El hotel tiene una piscina infinita muy popular, y es necesario reservar para entrar; es perfecta para fotos. El desayuno estaba bien, un nivel normal, y si hay mucha gente, hay que hacer cola. La ubicación es excelente, céntrica pero tranquila, a unos cinco minutos a pie de la estación de metro. También hay tiendas de conveniencia y grandes almacenes cerca. Prefiero esta zona en comparación con la de la estación de Yokohama. Se puede ir andando a la noria. Consideraría alojarme aquí de nuevo si vuelvo.

Las habitaciones son de estilo japonés típico y bastante amplias. Aunque habíamos reservado una habitación con baño compartido (sin ducha), esta disponía de inodoro y lavabo. Nuestra reserva incluía media pensión. El desayuno ofrecía opciones japonesas y occidentales, aunque la diferencia no era muy marcada: la japonesa incluía arroz y la occidental, una rebanada de pan tostado con una textura similar a la de un *pancake*. Las porciones de la cena eran muy generosas; incluso las comidas infantiles tenían el mismo tamaño que las de adulto. No está permitido entrar con calzado al hotel; hay que cambiarse a zapatillas en el vestíbulo, y el personal se encarga de guardar los zapatos. El gran baño público (*ofuro*) también cuenta con aguas termales y por la noche no había mucha gente. Es imprescindible ir al restaurante a la hora reservada, por lo que recomiendo hacer el *check-in* temprano para poder reservar con antelación.

♨️Las aguas termales privadas del hotel están ubicadas en un bosque prístino y tranquilo. Para evitar las multitudes, decidí ir sola a las 7 de la mañana. A pesar del viento frío, disfruté de un rato a solas en las humeantes aguas termales. 🪭Las comidas del hotel eran auténtica cocina kaiseki, con abulón fresco (con sabor a sal marina) y sashimi de atún rojo: una experiencia muy ceremonial. Después de la comida, disfrutamos del servicio de preparación de camas al estilo japonés y un aromático genmaicha (té de arroz integral). El único inconveniente fue que la calefacción de la habitación era un poco insuficiente. 🎐Perdí mi teléfono en el Shinkansen (tren de cercanías). El personal de la estación me dijo que los contactara por Line, pero la respuesta fue muy lenta y complicada debido a la barrera del idioma. Estoy muy agradecida con este hotel por contactar rápidamente con la oficina de objetos perdidos del Shinkansen. The direction from minatomirai station to hotel wasn’t clear, resulting we have to walk one big round to the hotel. After seeking staff advise, we then know the correct way. The room and toilet was big and spacious. The bathroom has separate bathtub, shower room and toilet which we like it. The room has balcony which has a very good view of the sea and amusement park. It is just 5 mins walk to the amusement park, cup museum and world’s porta shopping mall with a lot of anime figurines and claw machine. It’s a good time to take a break before heading to Tokyo. From our room, we can even see both Tokyo tower and skytree. The staff are helpful and there is even luggage delivery service which I had arranged and paid a fee to have it delivered to my Tokyo hotel. Highly recommended this hotel.

¡Nuestra estancia en Hakone fue perfecta! Nos alojamos en el Hotel Tensein en Hakone-Yumoto, una ubicación ideal para acceder en autobús, coche o tren a las atracciones turísticas más populares de la zona. El registro fue algo lento, pero el personal se esforzó por hablar bien inglés y explicarnos cada detalle de nuestra estancia. La habitación tenía todo lo necesario, el champú y el acondicionador eran fantásticos y había una gran variedad de productos. Al registrarnos, nos ofrecieron un 50% de descuento en el onsen privado, a 1100 yenes japoneses por uso. Nos dieron dos cupones, así que lo usamos dos veces (como tenemos tatuajes, no podíamos entrar al onsen público). Al registrarnos, hay que recoger la toalla y elegir un yukata (túnica tradicional japonesa), que se puede usar en el hotel y los jardines. En el hotel está estrictamente prohibido usar zapatos, así que al llegar hay que dejarlos en una caja con llave y quedarse con la llave. Si desea pasear por los hermosos jardines, dispone de sandalias y paraguas para usar en caso de lluvia. En el exterior, encontrará un onsen (baño termal) donde podrá relajarse con una bebida. Toda la comida y bebida (excepto el desayuno, que estaba incluido) se cargó a nuestra cuenta al final. Había una amplia selección de bebidas, aperitivos y comida para la cena y el almuerzo en el comedor, y un gran bufé para el desayuno y la cena (si lo reservó). El hotel está a solo 10 minutos a pie del centro del pueblo y a 15 minutos a pie de la estación de Hakone-Yumoto. Visitar el Monte Fuji es fácil: el autobús «H» sale de la parada 2, frente a la estación de Hakone-Yumoto. Bájese en la parada «Motohakone». Desde allí, puede tomar otro autobús y un tren para llegar a Gora y disfrutar de las atracciones de los alrededores.
